Stone Type: K2 Azurite Granite
Stone Name: K2 Azurite Granite
Description
K2 Azurite Granite is a rare and visually striking stone composed of a light gray to white granite matrix dotted with vivid royal blue or deep azure azurite inclusions. The dramatic contrast between the speckled granite base and the bright blue mineral orbs makes each piece unique and highly sought after for cabochons, beads, and decorative specimens. Its mountain-like appearance has earned it recognition as one of the most distinctive composite stones in lapidary use.
Geological/Chemical Properties
K2 Azurite Granite is primarily composed of granite, an igneous rock made up of quartz, feldspar, and mica, with inclusions of azurite, a copper carbonate mineral with the chemical formula Cu₃(CO₃)₂(OH)₂. It forms in high-altitude, granitic environments where secondary copper mineralization occurs within fractures of the host rock. The hardness varies depending on composition, typically ranging from 3.5–6.5 on the Mohs scale, with the granite providing durability while azurite remains relatively soft.
Locations Found
K2 Azurite Granite is found exclusively near the base of K2, the second-highest mountain in the world, located in the Karakoram range on the border of Pakistan and China. Its remote and extreme geographic origin contributes to its rarity and desirability among collectors and lapidary artists.
Metaphysical Properties
K2 Azurite Granite is often associated with insight, intuition, and grounding energy. It is believed to combine the spiritual awareness of azurite with the stabilizing influence of granite, helping to balance higher consciousness with practical focus. Commonly linked to the third eye and root chakras, it is thought to encourage clarity of thought, emotional stability, and a deeper connection between intuition and the physical world.
