Description:  

Jadeite jade is the rarer and more valuable form of jade, admired for its vivid colors and glassy finish. Its most prized variety, imperial jade, is a brilliant emerald green. Other colors  include green, lavender, red, blue, pink, black, and white. The color of jadeite jade is the most important factor in value.  For green, the depth of its green color and translucency are key to determining value. Imperial jade from Myanmar is very rare and expensive.

Geological/Chemical Properties:  

Jadeite is a sodium aluminum silicate pyroxene mineral with the chemical formula NaAlSi₂O₆. It has a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7, with a tough, compact structure that makes it highly durable. It has a specific gravity of 3.4.  

Locations Found:  

The finest jadeite comes from Myanmar (Burma). Burmese jade is often considered the best in the world. Other sources include Guatemala, Japan, and Kazakhstan. While not a primary source, jadeite can be found in limited deposited in the United States. Small amounts of jadeite have been discovered in Alaska, Californians, and Wyoming.

Jadeite jade is believed to bring wisdom, clarity, and prosperity. It is often used as a protective talisman and is said to encourage spiritual growth and emotional balance.
